The Best Part Of My Day:
I hate routine but living with a child with autism you have to adapt to their schedule and tendencies.
There are moments in my day that I absolutely cherish with him.
As soon as I walk in the door from work. “Daddy Fly”. This is where I throw him up in the air a few times then follow it up with “ring around the Rosy”
Or around 8 PM when he comes in the bed room and says “Daddy squeeze” making the squeezing motion which clenched fisted. Some kids with Autism like that deep pressure so I just bear hug him for a good ten minutes.
My favorite by far is around 5 or 6PM where he will come down to my office where I’m working then climb on my lap. “Daddy, snow globes…I shake it”.
In my office I have lined up various snow globes from my travels. I always grab some kind of momento whether its a trinket, shot glass, or snow globe.
Then we go down the line and he tells me what’s in each of them and then gives them a shake.
The 💀 snow globe for Halloween, the ☃️ , the ⛵ from the Maid of the Mist, Hershey Park, so many more but you get the idea.
This has gone on for weeks and I love every second. He gets so excited. And just lately he has started to give me a hug and thank me when we are done. Then he is on his way.
I can’t help in that moment to think about Trace Adkins…”you’re gonna miss this… you’re gonna want this back”.
